The Drown/Drowne/Drowns Family

Welcome to the Drown/Drowne/Drowns Family web site. This site is dedicated to the sharing of family history (genealogical) information with anyone interested in families with these surnames throughout the world. Join us!  We have a Great Family!

The Grasshopper to the left may well be the most representative symbol of the family in the United States.  It is a weathervane made by Deacon Shem Drowne in 1742 and still sits atop the famous Faneuil Hall in Boston (run your mouse pointer over there and then click it.)

Here is a great close-up of it.

Shem Drowne was born Dec. 4, 1683 in Kittery, Maine, the 3rd son of Leonard Drowne and Elizabeth Abbott. He married Katherine Clarke in Boston and they had 8 children, all but 3 of them died young.
