My Dad and I went fly fishing on the Big River. We caught plenty of smallmouth, some spotted, and of course the every feisty bluegill.
Fun Fun Day! The weather in MO has been fantastic all summer. We cooked an awesome meal in the dutch oven, pot roast!! We were visited by our friendly Park Ranger. Kids were able to ride in the canoe by themselves, and jump in and out of it. Max and his friend fly fished up and down the river. I was requested to come pick them up in the canoe. They were chest deep in water. Max successfully made it into the canoe. Friend was next… not so easy. Mean while Max and I were trying to offset the weight while friend was climbing in. Once we thought the canoe would tip, friend let go, and Max was launched into the water! LOL!!! Funniest thing I’ve seen!
Max and friend caught lots of blue gill and a couple bass. I caught 2 blue gill with the fly rod. One I didn’t know I caught, I was just back casting and sent that poor little fish flying.
We had the place mostly to our selves. The kids had the run of it and had no whines of boredom. Such a great way to spend a Lazy Saturday!

Our family and Sherry’s family floated about 8 miles on the Big Piney and then spent most of the day on a rocky beach across the river from the campground. We had to transport all of our gear and people by canoe. The whole weekend was a marvelous adventure.
Here are the scouts jumping in the very frigid waters of Greer Spring.
